Instruction to Authors
The author(s) transfer(s) the copyright to his/their article to Springer-Verlag effective if and when the article is accepted for publication. The copyright covers the exclusive and unlimited rights to reproduce and distribute the article in any form of reproduction (printing, electronic media or any other form); it also covers translation rights for all languages and countries. For U.S. authors the copyright is transferred to the extent transferable.

When preparing manuscripts for the journal, please note the following points:

  1. Submitted manuscripts should make a new or substantial contribution to the body of knowledge. Policy-oriented articles should meet the test of feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed measures. Commissioned articles should focus on technical insights or important lessons to be learnt from a specific body of research. Simultaneous submission to other journals is not permissible, nor should the paper have been accepted or published elsewhere.
  2. The refereeing process is single blind.
  3. Papers should preferably be submitted online via the webpage www.econ-international.net or sent as a pdf file attachment to the editors (editors@econ-international.net). In case regular mail is used, three copies of the manuscript must be submitted to Prof. P.J.J. Welfens and a disk containing the electronic version (one file including text and figures) should be included.
  4. All pages of a manuscript should be numbered consecutively. Title and subtitle should be short. The first page should contain: (i) the title; (ii) the name(s), institutional affiliation(s) with complete postal address(es) of the author(s); (iii) an abstract of not more than 15 lines and (iv) up to 5 key words and (v) 3-4 JEL classifications. To facilitate communication between the authors, editors and publishers, the author should furnish (vi) an e-mail or fax number on the title page of the manuscript.
  5. Acknowledgements and information on grants received can be given in a first footnote, which should not be included in the consecutive numbering of footnotes.
  6. Important formulae (displayed) should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript as (1), (2), etc. on the right-hand side of the page.
  7. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and be numbered consecutively throughout the text with superscript arabic numerals.
  8. The list of references should include only publications cited in the text. The references should be cited in alphabetical order under the first author’s name. Citations in the text should be by author and year.

Journal papers: (1) names and initials of all authors; (2) year of publication in parentheses; (3) full title of cited paper; (4) full title of journal; (5) arabic volume numbers; (6) first and last page numbers, e.g.: Dickson PR (2003) The pigeon breeders’ cup: a selection on selection theory of economic evolution. Journal of Evolutionary Economics 13: 259-280

Books: (1) names and initials of all authors; (2) year of publication in parentheses; (3) full title; (4) edition; (5) publisher; (6) place of publication, e.g.:

Schipke A (2001) Why Do Governments Divest? Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York

Articles in books: (1) names and initials of all authors; (2) year of publication in parantheses; (3) full title of article; (4) names and initials of all editors; (5) full title of book; (6) publisher; (7) place of publication; (8) first and last page number e.g.:

Greve B (2003) Social Security Reforms in Europe. In: Addison JT, Welfens PJJ (eds) Labor Markets and Social Security, 2nd ed. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York, 367-382
  9. Figures are to be numbered consecutively and should be submitted separately. For line drawings, good-quality glossy prints in the desired final size are preferred. Computer printouts are acceptable, provided they are legible and reproducible.
  10. Tables are to be numbered separately from the illustrations. Each table should have a short title.
  11. Page proofs will be sent to the author(s) via e-mail. Corrections should be limited to printer’s errors, since the costs involved in making any other alterations are substantial and may be charged to the author. When returning proofs, the author(s) must agree to transfer copyright of the manuscript to the publisher. The author is entitled to formal corrections only. Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the responsible Editor. In such a case please contact one of the Editors before returning the proofs to the publisher.
  12. Manuscripts in electronic form. Submission of data is encouraged. Please do not transmit any such data to the publisher until your manuscript has been reviewed and accepted for publication. Authors using common word-processing systems are requested to follow the "Technical Instructions for Manuscripts and Illustrations in Electronic Form". Further information can be found at: springeronline.com Authors who prepare their papers with TeX are encouraged to ask for Springer-Verlag’s TeX macropackages available at springeronline.com After the paper has been accepted by the editor(s), the author should submit a file containing the text in final form as well as a pdf file. One complimentary copy is supplied for each author. Thirty (30) offprints of each contribution are provided free of charge. Orders for additional offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs. When the author orders additional offprints, he is entitled to receive a pdf file of his article for his own personal use.
